What is a Patient Registry?

Patient Registry

Patient registries, also known as EMPIs, have been the core technology behind health interoperability for decades. They gather patient data from across multiple facilities, electronic medical record (EMR) systems and geographic regions to create a more complete and trusted view of the patient record.

Since many of the source systems that provide patient data were never designed to integrate with one another, an EMPI behaves like a keyring. It gives you a single point of reference that lists the keys you can use to unlock a patient’s clinical data in each of the systems. This “keyring” approach has proven to be valuable to our clients because it allows them to use the systems and technologies they already have in place without retooling and retraining their staff.

The IMT Patient Registry securely fits between the existing systems in your environment, matching records using the key demographics that matter most to your organization. IMT builds our Patient Registry solutions around the IBM InfoSphere MDM Standard Edition platform—the same platform that’s in place at over 300 healthcare clients worldwide.
